In the sponsor team of Lasekaitsepäev, every member, basically just chose the companies they themselves wanted to write to. Our main objective was to get gift cards and similar prizes to give to the volunteers, but we also needed for example food for catering on the day. To sum up, I wrote to 16 different companies from restaurants to theatres. Now that some weeks have passed, I have gotten positive results from 4 companies, who have been kind enough to support us with gift cards. Also, negotiations are still going on with one company.
I think one new thing I would not have expected and now know is that when people do not write you back, writing to them again really does help. When I bugged people for the second time after a couple of weeks, I got many new responses I would not otherwise have gotten and also sponsorships I would not otherwise have gotten! Also, I now just had time practicing writing formal emails, which has already helped me, because I also had to write some formal emails to get information for my extended essay.

Joining the organizing team of Tartu lastekaitsepäev
Last week I joined the volunteer group of Tartu lastekaitsepäev, which is an event on the 1st of June, in which about 5000 pupils participate each year. I have participated in organizing different events for Lille Maja youth centre for many years already. This is my second year helping with the lastekaitsepäev. I have also known the head organizer for years and knew that the organizing team would be very friendly, so I didn't hesitate to join this year again.
There were many teams of different volunteers. For example the program team, design team and project team. I knew that I would be hopeless at for example design and chose to join the sponsor team. This is a team that reaches out to companies asking for various sponsorships. I hadn't done that before and thought that reaching out to companies would we a valuable skill to develop. I know that I would hate to call people and talk to them "live", but I would quite like to send emails. This way I can develop my formal communication skills, but also avoid the anxiety of phone calls.
