Skolstrejk för klimatet

Following the actions of the very inspiring Greta Thunberg, there was also a climate strike in Tartu! And I also participated in it. For some time, I have seen climate change as maybe the most important problem facing humanity there is and it was a very good feeling to stand there with more than 200 other students of my home town expressing this feeling. It was a truly great experience and I was glad to share it with my friends who I really urged to come with me. I also wrote to the Facebook group of my class. My favourite thing was educating my younger sister on the topic. I explained her what the climate change was and what we as a species are doing wrong at the moment. She also came with me to the strike. An ethical consideration to make with the schoolstrike is whether it is acceptable to quit school. It was something I considered especially in relation to how I influence my sister with thi behaviour. However, I do believe that with the current situation, where the governments are doing essentially nothing concrete to address what is perhaps the greatest challenge in the face of humans today, striking is justifiable. I believe it is also a great oppurtunity to learn about civil action in participating in it firsthand.
